Upper Endoscopy

Upper endoscopy has been an important investigation for many upper GI complaints including epigastric pain, vomiting, indigestion, acid reflux, weight loss and unexplained anaemia. However, certain “red flags” demands a prompt attention and patients should seek referral for an early upper endoscopy. These “red flags” include:

  1. patients over 40 year old with dysphagia, weight loss, anaemia, passage of black loose stool
  2. family history of gastric or esophageal cancer
  3. chronic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use
  4. suffering from GERD symptoms for more than 5 years
