Video Assisted Thoraco-Laparoscopic Esophagectomy (VATE)
VATE was introduced in the late 90’s as an alternative to conventional open surgery for cancer of the esophagus. In contrast to a large thoracotomy wound, VATE technique allows esophageal resection and lymph node dissection through a few keyholes on the chest wall. It allows for better recovery and lessen the chance of chest complications such as infection.11
