Colonoscopy

Colorectal cancer ranks second in incidence in Hong Kong and roughly 1 in 21 males and 1 in 34 females will acquire this disease with median age of onset at 68 in males and 69 in females. Colonoscopy is the standard investigation for colorectal cancer and its precursor lesions. A higher prevalence of “early” or pre-cancerous condition is anticipated in the future as colonoscopy becomes readily available for screening. Some of these early lesions can be cured by endoscopic surgery leaving the patient disease-free and scar-less after the procedure. This treatment option will be the mainstream of surgical treatment in the years to come. The HKSAR has introduced colorectal cancer screening for eligible population, please refer to official website for details.
